What’s happening in the cheese world this month: October 2023

Did somebody say BIG CHEESE WEEKENDER! Whilst we’ll be busy shouting about this event dedicated to great cheese, we realise there are other cheesy goings-on for the rest of October. Here’s our round up of what’s on; if it’s worth doing, we’ve got it! But do keep an eye on our events page and courses page as we are always adding more.

1. Big Cheese Weekender 2023

We invite you to join us LIVE at one of our iconic cheese venues in London: Borough Market on Saturday and Chiswick Cheese Market on Sunday. And if you cannot join us in person, there will be opportunities abound, starting on Friday, to transport yourself virtually around the country, from cheesemongers’ counters and dairies to maturing rooms and kitchens. All you have to do is buy the best cheese you can get your hands on, turn up and taste along.


2. Young Cheesemonger of the Year 2023

  • Norway

The Young Cheesemonger Award supports and rewards young talent in the Cheese Industry, because becoming an expert Cheesemonger is worth celebrating! The finalists have been shortlisted and will be travelling to Trondheim, Norway to take part in the finals event at the World Cheese Awards.

3. World Cheese Awards, Oste V-M Cheese Festival and World Cheese Market

A truly global cheese event, the World Cheese Awards brings together cheesemakers, retailers, buyers, consumers and food commentators worldwide to judge over 4,000 cheeses from over 40 countries.

As the World Cheese Awards judging unfolds, Trondheim Spektrum will also play host to the Oste V-M Cheese Festival and World Cheese Market across 27 and 28 October. Featuring cheese tastings, talks and activities for families, Oste V-M is open to cheese experts and cheese lovers alike.

4. Charlie Turnbull’s Level Two Cheese Course Live on Zoom

Take the next step in your cheese education with Charlie Turnbull and his eagerly-awaited virtual classroom. Over five Monday evenings Charlie follows the Academy of Cheese’s Level Two course, with learning focussing around tasting and enjoying cheese. 24 of the 75 Level 2 cheeses are available for UK delegates to order directly with Charlie and taste along as you learn.

5. Little Falls Cheese Festival

From 1864 to 1870, Little Falls, New York was the largest cheese market…in the world. Now, in its 8th year, The Little Falls Cheese Festival is New York’s premier cheese festival, supporting local dairy farmers. With over 90 vendors and 42 cheesemakers representing New York State, you’ll find a huge variety of cheeses, plus gourmet foods and beverages to pair with them. Then, after a long day of walking, make sure to stop by one of the local food trucks to get a delicious meal to go.
