What’s Happening In The Cheese World This Month – October 22

Did somebody say BIG CHEESE WEEKENDER! Whilst we’ll be busy shouting about this event dedicated to great cheese, we realise there are other cheesy goings-on for the rest of October. Here’s our round up of what’s on this October; if it’s worth doing, we’ve got it! But do keep an eye on our events page and courses page as we are always adding more.

1. Big Cheese Weekender

Spend the whole weekend celebrating all that is cheese!

Taking place nationwide 7th-9th October, #bigcheeseweekender is a celebration of all the cheesemakers, cheesemongers, farmers, chefs, specialist retailers and wholesalers who work hard to bring the best cheeses to your table.

With over 30 free-to-join, online events taking place across the weekend, including cheese pairing masterclasses, virtual dairy tours, chef demos, and guided cheese tastings, there’s something for everyone to savour.

2. West London Wine School Associate Course

Learn about the world’s classic cheeses, how they are made, their history and what they taste like. Taste 12 classic cheeses and learn about cheese in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Taking place at The Wine Cellars in Fulham, the course wouldn’t be complete without wine, so a tasting of 6 wines is included in the fee!

3. Cheese Tasting at George & Joseph’s

The award-winning deli in Leeds are now welcoming guests back into the shop for in-person Cheese Tastings every first Thursday and Friday of the month. 

Tickets are £30 per person – for this you’ll get your fill of cheeses and accompaniments and a glass of wine on arrival.

4. British Cheese Awards

The British Cheese Awards returns this month after a two year, covid-enforced, break. Taking place at the Bath & West Showground in Shepton Mallet, this year’s Awards see 490 entries and 20 brand new cheeses that have been created since the British Cheese Awards last took place. The 50-strong judging panel will be made up of cheesemakers, cheesemongers, cheese experts, buyers and commentators, who will assess all entries from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
